This article explains the basics of IP addressing for users managing servers at Circle City Servers.
IP Address
An IP address is a unique identifier assigned to your server on a network. Your server will have at least one public IPv4 address.
Subnet Mask
The subnet mask defines the size of your network. Common examples include /24 (255.255.255.0) and /32 (single IP).
Default Gateway
The default gateway is the router your server uses to communicate with devices outside its local network. It is usually the first usable IP in your subnet.
Example Configuration
- IP Address: 192.0.2.10
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (/24)
- Gateway: 192.0.2.1
